Context

What is reconstitution?

Your peptide arrives in lyophilized form: a white powder in a vial. Lyophilization (freeze-drying) allows the product to be stored for months or years without degradation.

Reconstitution involves adding bacteriostatic water to transform this powder into a liquid solution. It's a simple but important step: proper technique ensures a stable, usable solution.

Good to know

In summary

Powder + bacteriostatic water = ready-to-use solution. The process takes about 3 minutes.

Preparation

The materials you need

Gather everything before you start. Available at pharmacies or on our site.

Your vial

Lyophilized peptide (white powder)

The powder is dehydrated for long-term storage. Reconstitution turns it into an injectable solution.

Bacteriostatic water

Sterile solvent (10 ml)

Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol to limit bacterial growth. Keeps the reconstituted solution for 28 days in the fridge.

Insulin syringe

1 mL, U-100 graduated

Each small mark = 0.01 mL (10 µL). Ideal for precise doses. Available at pharmacies without prescription.

Tip

Where to find the materials?

Bacteriostatic water and insulin syringes: at pharmacies, often without prescription. You can also add bacteriostatic water to your order on our site.

Protocol

The 6 steps in detail

Follow these steps in order. Each step explains the "why" as well as the "how".

1

Step 1

Prepare your workspace

Hygiene and organization

  1. 1Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. 2Prepare a clean, disinfected surface (workbench, table).
  3. 3Lay out all materials: vial, bacteriostatic water, syringe, alcohol swabs.
Tip

Working in a calm place avoids mistakes. Take your time.

2

Step 2

Disinfect the vial cap

Crucial step to avoid contamination

  1. 1Open an alcohol swab (70% isopropyl alcohol).
  2. 2Gently wipe the rubber cap of the vial.
  3. 3Let it air dry for 30 seconds. Do not blow on it.
Tip

A well-disinfected cap limits the risk of bacterial contamination.

3

Step 3

Draw the bacteriostatic water

Volume precision

  1. 1Remove the needle cap from the syringe.
  2. 2Draw air into the syringe up to the desired volume (e.g. 1 mL).
  3. 3Insert the needle into the water vial cap, inject the air.
  4. 4Invert the vial, slowly draw the water up to the graduation.
Tip

Injecting air makes drawing easier. Never force.

4

Step 4

Inject water into the peptide vial

The actual reconstitution

  1. 1Insert the needle into the peptide vial cap.
  2. 2Inject the water slowly along the inner wall, never directly onto the powder.
  3. 3Remove the syringe and needle.
Tip

A direct stream onto the powder can create bubbles and denature the peptide.

5

Step 5

Mix gently

Without shaking

  1. 1Never shake the vial.
  2. 2Roll the vial between your palms or tilt it gently.
  3. 3The powder should dissolve in 1 to 2 minutes. The solution should be clear or slightly opalescent.
Tip

Shaking creates shear forces that can degrade the protein.

6

Step 6

Check and store

Quality control

  1. 1Verify there are no visible particles or undissolved residue.
  2. 2If the solution is cloudy or contains particles, do not use.
  3. 3Store in the refrigerator (2–8 °C) in its original packaging.
Tip

Clear solution = ready to use. Cloudy solution = do not use.

Warning

Never shake

Shear forces can denature the protein. Mix only by gentle rolling between your palms.

Tool

Reconstitution calculator

Enter the 3 values below to know how much to draw on your syringe.

1. How much peptide is in your vial?

mg (shown on label)

2. How much bacteriostatic water will you add?

mL

3. What dose do you want per injection?

mcg (250 mcg = 0.25 mg · 1 mg = 1000 mcg)

Stability

Storage: before and after

Before reconstitution

  • −20 °C (freezer): 24 to 36 months
  • 4 °C (refrigerator): up to 6 months
  • Keep away from light and moisture
